About

My Background

Hi folks. I’m Chris Cavin, LCSW. I’m a former Zen monk and a psychotherapist in private practice in Holladay, UT. I have been practicing sitting meditation since 1996 and saw my first client as a therapist in 2005. I have graduate degrees from the University of Chicago (MA), where I wrote my thesis on mystical theology, and the University of Utah(MSW).

Before starting my private practice I worked in residential, day treatment and IOP settings in alcohol and drug treatment; designed, managed and ran the mindfulness curriculum for a high volume clinic for several years and taught thousands of groups on emotion regulation, thinking errors, spirituality, relapse prevention, interpersonal effectiveness, distress tolerance and many other subjects. I have also worked in home care, hospice, in state hospitals and as a combat trauma/PTSD therapist for the Veteran’s Administration in Arkansas.

At our clinic here, we do weekly meditation groups at our office in addition to psychotherapy and videoconferencing consulting services for those outside the state. I focus on existential therapies and supportive modalities to help you work through life events, transitions and chronic mental and physical health challenges. I accept most insurance and can always see you within 48 hours.
